Italian Street Painting '06

Where did this year all go?

It's strange, you know, the last twelve months were plenty busy, but with the endless rains of '05-'06 that started not long after the last Street Painting festival-- and finished not long before this one-- it's like the year almost never happened when I come to think of it. Last time we were here it seemed like barely yesterday. This last year was all like a rainy dream of sitting in steamy coffee shops, reading and writting, rather than grinding killer pitched fire roads. So now both of us have gotten pretty out of shape, and it would almost be embarrassing to post the rides that we've been on lately when compared to our former glory.

But at least we still have the Italian Street Painting Festival to mark like clockwork the onset of summer.

Another fine sunny day in lovely San Rafael.

Cruising around the main drag, just scoping the place out.

Those back-side mid-riffs where quite in fashion this time around...

...but then again, the way we look at it, those back-side mid-riffs are ALWAYS in style!

A nice peaceful shot of Mother Theresa.

There's nothing like trying to take a picture that gets everybody to stop and look with their shadow right in the way. So I've figure out the system: hide the camera, look around a the other painting, or anything else, let people wander off... and then QUICK!... SNAP!!

Dad was asking me one day what anime was. So... here ya go...

Here's a nice little art deco tribute to the housing boom... right before the housing BUST! Heh heh.

Melanie Stimmel was back again from last year, as a general participant this time, for this amazing gem.

A few other nice ones from what was overall a great year.

And a couple more, among many, I liked.

Getting toward late evening the shadows start to run long.

So I guess that's it... happy trails to you... until we meet again...

Although this was quite a good year, it was somewhat remarkable in that there wasn't really a centerpiece exhibit this time. Actually there was, but it was pretty lame, and didn't really command any photographs either by the subject matter or the quality of the artwork. What was worse, the T-shirt was also retarded, showing the orginal painting that this so-called centerpiece was a replica of, rather than one of the street works. Lame lame lame lame lame. Bad Steet Painting Festival! Bad! Bad! No biscuit for you!!!

That said, hopefully we'll dust of our bikes and get back into mountain biking soon to add a few more circuits to the web page, and get a couple more photo exhibits up. Or if not, then see ya next year for our new San Rafael Street Painting blog. Anyways, we will probably want to wait for the weather to cool down in a couple months before doing much biking... but that's what we did last year and that's about when it started raining. So, if you missed out on prior street painting exhibits, here are some pictures I took from last year, and the year before ('04). (b. June 11, 2006)

As for how I got the wierd border, as a note to myself for furture reference, here is what I did: in PaintBuster, after rotating the picture, save it as a jpeg (happened to be 96%, don't know why I had it set so high, obviously for something else). Then reopen it and fill paint the empty spaces with black or whatever color to get the border.

Reminds me of Madam Butterfly I just saw last Thursday at the War Memorial Opera House. HIGHLY recommended by the way... it plays until June 29, if I recall. Truly truly beautiful amazing experience... see it!

Now this guy had a rather interesting spackle effect, that I hadn't seen here before, I guess from sprinkling water on it. Pretty cool!
